RIKERT NORDIC CENTER, VT – The final carnival has come and gone in a whirlwind of wax, speed and love. Middlebury College did a phenomenal job hosting and the Williams Nordic team is content with their final standing.
The women raced first in their 15k mass start classic race. After completing three 5k laps and leaving it all out on the course, senior captain Ingrid Thyr lead the women finishing in 25th place. Thyr was greeted by her fans after her race with hugs that told her they will miss her so much. Closely following Thyr was teammate sophomore Siri Bohacek who skied to a season best in 26th place. Right behind Bohacek was freshman Hadassah Lurbur in 28th.
That makes three Williams Nordic women in the top 30! The Williams Nordic women ended their day in 7th place overall.
Once the women had all crossed the line and finished their last race of the season, the men embarked on their 20k mass start classic race. After every man crossed the line in a battle for a result that would make them smile, it was no surprise that sophomore Isaac Freitas-Eagan lead the Williams Nordic men in 5th place. This is the result Freitas-Eagan has been building up to all season and it will send him to NCAAs. Following Freitas-Eagan was teammate junior Henry Mcgrew in 11th place, only 10 seconds out of a top 10 finish. After Mcgrew came teammate senior captain Jack Consenstein in 25th place.
That makes 3 in the top 25. The Williams Nordic men ended their day and the last race of the season in 5th place, the same as yesterday.
Head coach Jason Lemieux comments, "It was great to see so many strong performances during the final weekend of racing on the EISA circuit. We had 5 out of 6 women race to career best finishes this weekend and 3 men had season best results as well. We had 5 top 15 finishes and all 12 scoring results for the weekend were in the top 30. The top 30 is a tough group to crack into and doing that consistently all weekend was a big accomplishment for the team. Isaac Freitas-Eagan capped off a strong season with a 5th place in the 20K classic and sealed his spot at the NCAA Championships next week in Bozeman, MT. Ingrid Thyr and Henry McGrew were just a few seconds away several times this season from results that would have qualified them for the NCAA Championships. It was a tight battle and in the end, they just missed out on qualifying. It's a bittersweet time of year for coaches and for the team. It's fun to celebrate a successful last weekend of racing, but it's really hard to say goodbye to the day to day interaction with the team and the rhythm of traveling and racing together every weekend. We've had a really fun and rewarding year and we're going to miss our seniors very much. Congratulations to Class of 2020 skiers Ingrid Thyr, Carmen Bango, Lucy Alexander, Ivy Spiegel-Ostrom, Jack Consenstein and Dylan Syben on a great 4 years representing the Eph Nordic Ski Team".
It has been an incredible season and the team looks forward to cheering Isaac Freitas-Eagan on at NCAAs next week and to jump into Spring training to gear up for race season 2021. Rock the Cow!
