After one day of Alpine racing and one day of Nordic racing the NCAA Skiing Championships
were cancelled due to the expanding coronavirus situation in the country. The Ephs with 10
points from Maddie Dekko's 21st place finsish in the Giant Slalom and 20 ponts from Isaac
Freitas-Eagan's 11th place finish in the 10K Freestyle race tallied 30 team points and finished
15th out of 23 teams.

CROSSCUT, BOZEMAN, MT – After qualifying for NCAA Cross Country Ski Championships, sophomore Isaac Freitas-Eagan traveled to Bozeman, MT with head coach Jason Lemieux and assistant coach Gerrit Garberich.

The first race was a 10k freestyle interval start race. Freitas-Eagan comments, "I felt great! I went out a little too hot and was third at 2.75k. I blew up over the last hill and got edged out by two seconds but it was such a fun race and I was so thankful for the coaches incredible waxing. The skis were absolute rippers".

Once Freitas-Eagan crossed the finish line, he found himself in an astounding 11th place finish out of a total of 40 athletes, only 2 seconds out of top 10.

Head coach Jason Lemieux comments, "Isaac's race today was nothing short of spectacular. He skied with confidence, paced well and went deep into the pain cave when it mattered most. It was so rewarding and exciting to watch him ski well at altitude and in such a competitive field. Isaac was race leader after 25 starters and Gerrit and I knew he was skiing really fast. With 39 (out of 40) bibs across the finish he was sitting in an all-american finish position of 10th. Bib 40 end up finishing 2 seconds ahead of Isaac in 9th and pushed Isaac's finish place to 11th. This matches the 2nd best Eph Nordic result at NCAAs in the last 35 years. His result was the 5th fastest by an US born skier and it earned an 8th place finish for our Men's Nordic Team, finishing ahead of many full 3-person team Division 1 schools. Isaac has had a great season and did all of the little things right leading into this championship week. He tapered his training well, stayed healthy and brought a contagiously positive and nonchalant attitude to the NCAA Championships. He's an athlete that anyone could learn from and we are very proud of what he has done here in Bozeman, MT representing the Eph Nordic Ski Team."

Unfortunately, athletes will not be competing in any more NCAA races this week. The rest of the Championship has been canceled, due to coronavirus safety precautions. Wish Isaac a safe trip home and congratulations on a season worth remembering. Until next time! Roll Cow.
