No. 7 Ephs head to Bowdoin Saturday for NESCAC Quarterfinal match-up

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA — Pat Manning's women's basketball squad (12-12, 4-6) has earned the No. 7 seed in the 2018 NESCAC Tournament and will head back to Maine for a rematch with the tournament's second seed, Bowdoin (23-1, 9-1), currently ranked No. 3 in the country.

The Polar Bears are the No. 2 seed for the third time overall and first time since 2015. Bowdoin posted its best regular season record since the 2006-07 season, with its lone loss being a 49-45 setback at Amherst. The Polar Bears own the best offense in the NESCAC, averaging 82.8 points per game, while allowing 47.3 points per game. Bowdoin is shooting a league-high 46.9 percent from the floor, 37.8 percent from 3-point range and 76.7 percent from the foul line. The Polar Bears have won eight NESCAC Championships, but have not claimed the title since 2009.

Williams is the No. 7 seed for the second consecutive season. Connecticut College and Williams finished with identical conference records of 4-6, but Connecticut College edged the Ephs during the regular season to grab the No. 6 seed. The Ephs began the year with a 5-1 record, and snapped a four-game losing streak with a 57-50 win over Hamilton in the regular season finale. Williams ranks third in the league in blocks, averaging 4.2 per contest.

Bowdoin is 7-0 against Williams in the NESCAC tournament series and the teams last met in the 2016 quarterfinals with the Polar Bears posting a 73-50 win. This season, Bowdoin earned a 73-47 victory over the Ephs on February 3. An Eph win would propel Williams into the semifinals for the first time since 2015.
