Williamstown, MA– It was a chilly, windy day at Taconic Golf Course todayand the greens were rolling fast. It was truly a battle trying to play the wind and other course conditions for the Ephs. After a long day, Ephs fired off a 307 to take the the title in both thier Fall Invitational and the NESCAC Fall Qualifier with a two-day total of 619. Amherst came in second with a 624 and Middlebury followed with a 635.
Junior Stella Woo continued to lead the Ephs, finishing with a 75 to come in T1 individually. Sophomores Joanna Kim and Olive White shot 77 and 81 respectively which put Kim in 6th and White in 14th place. Freshmen Catalin Yturralde(T7) and Malini Rudra(T9) shot 80 and 75 respectively. Rudra made an impressive climb up the individual leaderboard as she improved her standing by 18 places.
The overall scoring was followed by a three hole play-off between Junior Stella Woo and Senior Morgan Yurosek from Amherst College. The three holes consisted of hole number 1, 18 then back to 1, which were all par 5s. The first playoff hole was a nice three on, two putt, green in regulation pars for both Woo and Yurosek. The second play-off hole, Yurosek hit two solid shots to get on the green in two. Woo was on in three with a 35 footer for a birdie, which she managed to sink. Yurosek also birdied for them to continue the play-off. On the third play-off hole, Woo pulled her drive to the left bunker which cost her a shot to get out of it. Then she hit her fourth approach shot which hit the hole then ricocheted out, leaving her a 15 footer for par. Woo finished the hole with a bogey and Yurosek a par and the play off was over with Yurosek being the individual winner.
"It was an exciting day of golf featuring my first ever playoff as well," noted Woo. "I'm happy with how I played today overall and how I managed to keep potential troubles from blowing up too much. I'm really proud of the team for grinding it out today too since we all knew that this was going to be an important tournament. I can really feel the team coming together as we proceed into the final week of our season"
