WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS. – For the second time in his four years at the helm of the Williams College women's golf team head coach Tomas Adalsteinsson has been named the Golf Pride Grips WGCA East Region Coach of the Year.
The Ephs won four of the five tournaments they played in the fall and with their win in the NESCAC Fall Qualifier they were poised to host the 2020 NESCAC Championship this spring at the Taconic Golf Club with a chance to earn the NESCAC's automatic bid to the NCAA DIII Tournament, however, the national coronavirus pandemic canceled the spring portion of the Eph season before it could even begin.
Adalsteinsson's 2019-20 Eph team featured a record six golfers earning All-East Region honors and the good news for Adalsteinsson and the program is that all six of those golfers return next year.
"I'm honored to receive this award for a second year and I want to thank the WGCA and fellow coaches for the recognition," Adalsteinsson said. "All the credit goes to the team and their performance this fall."
"We doubled our number of sub-600 tournaments at the Ann S. Betchelder and Mt. Holyoke Invitationals and we saw four players shoot rounds at par or better. This team continues to raise the bar and break records and I know that they are motivated to do even better next year. I couldn't be more proud of their effort on the golf course and in the classroom. The future is bright."
