CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Three members of the 2019-20 William College women's golf team coached by Tomas Adalsteinsson, the 2020 East Region Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Coach of the Year, have been accorded All-American Scholars honors by the WGCA.
Playing in just the fall portion of their schedule due to the Covid-19 pandemic the Ephs won four of the five tournaments they competed in and featured a record six players earning WGCA All East Region laurels. By winning the NESCAC Fall Qualifier the Ephs earned the right to host the NESCAC Championship in the spring of 2020 at Taconic Golf Club, however, the spring portion of the schedule was victimized by the Covid-19 pandemic.
To be honored as a WGCA All-American Scholar a golfer must possess a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50. "Every year one of our main goals is for the students on our team to excel both in the classroom and on the golf course," stated Adalsteinsson. "It's a great challenge to earn a GPA above 3.50 at Williams, and then to match that with playing in least 50% of our team's tournament rounds, and that's no small feat on a competitive team like ours. All of our players deserve credit for their hard work, and I am glad to see Malini, Mehr, and Olivia receive this recognition."
The three honored Ephs are all underclassmen with Malini Rudura being freshman, White a sophomore, and Mehr Sawant a junior.
This fall Malini Rudra played eight rounds and averaged 78.38 per round. She was named to the All-East Region Team and she tied for 9th at the Williams/NESCAC Fall Qualifier – 159.
Mehr Sawant also played eight rounds and she averaged 81.63. Sawant finished 4th at the Williams/NESCAC Fall Qualifier -- 152
Olivia White played 10 rounds, including two at par or better, and averaged 78.1. She tied for second at Wellesley with a two-over 146 and also at Mount Holyoke with a two-over 147 and she was also named to the All East Region Team.
