WILLIAMSTOWN, MA -The Williams College Women's Hockey team defeated the Manhattanville Valiants (3-4-3) tonight. The Ephs won their second out of conference game this weekend 3-0, with first year Alex Lovaas nettng the game winner just 1:52 into the first period.

Eph netminder Margaret Draper notched her second consecutive shutout by making 25 saves.

Williams is now 3-3-0 for the season.

The Ephs came out firing tonight taking an early lead 1:52 into the opening period. Freshmen Alex Lovaas scored her first collegiate goal and the first goal of the game off a rebound after junior Hadley DesMeules forced a turnover in the neutral zone. Skating up the wing, DesMeules took a shot from the point that was then deflected in front of the crease and shot in by Lovaas.
Sophomore goalie Margaret Draper made a total of 13 saves in the first period and held off a Manhattanville power play at 9:09. The defensive pair of sophomore Hanna Beattie and senior Caitlin Conlon were able to block Manhattanville shots and ice the puck out of the Williams zone.
The Valiants killed a penalty as well at 15:35. Senior goalie Kirtsen Shaughnessy made a good glove save off of a shot by Junior Natalie Bernstein, however Williams gained momentum with the penalty kill and scored for the second time at TIME. Junior Michaela Levine made a great pass from the Manhattanville corner out in front of the net that was then tipped in by sophomore Emily Krueger.
"This was the first time this season that we really came out playing our best hockey," reflected Head coach Meghan Gillis. It paid off as the Ephs skated into the locker room with a 2-0 lead against the Valiants.
The second period started off with a power play for Manhattanville at 1:01. Williams defense continued its strong play and the Ephs carried over their penalty kill momentum for the rest of the period, keeping the puck in the Manhattanville zone. With 3:26 minutes to go in the stanza, sophomore Hanna Beattie scored her second goal of the season with a slap shot assisted by Conlon and Bernstein.
Williams held off another two Manhattanville power plays when the Ephs received a penalty at 16:59 and then another with 20 seconds to go in the period. Williams started the third stanza a man down, but Draper stayed tough between the pipes, making a great save at 1:05 when there was a scramble in front of the Williams net.
The Ephs were unable to convert during a Manhattanville penalty at 3:33, but the Ephs remained offensive for the remainder of the third period while also killing two more penalties, at 6:55 and 11:02. Conlon had a great block on the last penalty kill and Kruger cleared the puck twice. The Ephs maintained possession of the puck for the majority of the third period and defeated the Valiants 3-0.
"Margaret did a great job tonight following up her Friday shut-out with another shut-out tonight. Our defense helped her out and stayed relentless, killing six penalties. I'm looking forward to building off our two wins this weekend and competing in Michigan after the holidays."
Draper had a total of 25 bids and Kirtsen Shaughnessy made 25 saves.
The Ephs are back in action January 2, playing against Adrian College in the Adrian College Tournament in Michigan.
