WILLIAMSTOWN,MA – The Williams College women's hockey team (5-5-1) tied Hamilton College Continentals (5-4-3) tonight in overtime 0-0. The Ephs had two penalty kills, and freshman goalie Christina Cleroux (New Glascow, N.S.) had her second shut-out of the season tonight, making a total of 27 saves. The Ephs are now 2-2-1 in conference play while the Continentals are 0-3-2.
Play was consistently back and forth between the two ends throughout the game. Both freshmen goalies, Williams' Cleroux and Hamilton's Samantha Walther (Gambrills, MD) kept their teams in the game and their opponents off the score sheet through overtime.
Williams had their first penalty kill at 1:37 in the first period, with Cleroux making a save and Williams defense blocking a shot. Hamilton then went a man down at 13:49, but Williams was unable to capitalize off of the power play. The teams remained deadlocked at 0-0 going into the second.
Both teams played at even strength the entirety of the second period. Hamilton out-shot Williams 10 to 7, but Cleroux stayed big in net to hold off the Continentals. Neither team scored as the game went into the final period.
The Ephs will face off against the Continentals once more tomorrow afternoon at the Lansing Chapman Rink at 3pm.
