Williamstown, MA -- The Williams Ephs (4-2-1, 2-2-0 NESCAC) faced Castleton Spartans (4-4-2) and although the Spartans scored early in the game, the Ephs were able to catch up to bring the game to a tie after senior captain Abby Brustad scored at 15:09 into the third period, bringing the score to 2-2.

The Ephs got off to a slow start in the first period with two penalties. The first was a hooking penalty given to sophomore Meghan Halloran at 17:39  which the Ephs were able to kill off with some blocks from junior goalie Marissa Anderson and the team. At the very end of the first period, Williams was called for another penalty. Too many men on the ice. During this power play, the Spartans were able to score off a cross ice pass with 4.7 second to go in the first period. The Castleton goal was scored by Courtney Gauthier and Aimee Briand and Jocelyn Forrest were credited with assists.

The Ephs had some good shots in beginning of second period but were unable score until after Castleton upped their lead to 2-0. At 7:12 into the second period, Halloran wass called for tripping. The Spartans were able to capitalize off this power play opportunity as well as Nicole Trivino tallied at 9:02. Assisting onthe Trivino goal were Casey Traill and Chanel Tvergyak. The Ephs responded quickly though when at 12:07  first year Elizabeth Welch scored her first college goal. Welch's goal was a short-handed goal and classmate CC Wallin assisted on the Welch score.

The Spartans were given another power play opportunity when Ephs' senior Eliza Quigley was called for interference at 18:41. The Ephs penalty kill unit held the Spartans at bay for the remainder of the period and Castleton took a 2-1 lead into the second intermission. Through twoperiods the Ephs led Castleton in shots 17-15..

The Ephs started off the third period by successfully killing off the remainder of the Quigley penalty from the end of the second period. The Ephs followed this successful penalty kill with numerous shots on goal, but were unable to get the puck past Castleton goalie Alexis Kalm.

At 13:37 Castleton's Felicia Bjälveg was called for tripping, poutting the Ephs on the power play. The Ephs were quick to take advantage of the power play opportunity and tie the game at 2-2. Senior captain Abby Brustad was able to score with 28 seconds left on the power play, and Halloran and senior captain Annie rush earned assists on the goal.

Senior Claire Mancheski was sent off for a body checking penalty at 15:41. However, the Spartans' Ryanne Mix took a hooking penalty a minute and thirty seconds into that power play at 17:14, creating a four on four. For the remainder of the game, both teams went back and forth but no goals were scored as Anderson made an important save with 20 seconds left.

By the end of the third period, Anderson had saved 15 of 17 Castleton shots while the Kalm was able to block 38 of 40 Williams shots.

The game then went into five minutes of overtime, which the Ephs started immediately on the penalty kill after Halloran was called for tripping eight seconds in. After successfully killing off this penalty, the Ephs were given their own power play opportunity at 2:53 when Castleton's Casey Traill was called for hooking. The Ephs had some good shots during this power play but were unable to find the net.

"I think we're still struggling to play our game," said head coach Meghan Gillis, "We wanna be able to play our systems, play together and be able to start the game strong and play out some of our chances early so the game can play out a different way."

The Ephs next game is this Saturday night at 7pm against Elmira at the Lansing Chapman Rink.
