Portsmouth, RI-- The Williams College Ephs (10-3-1, 5-3-0) took down the Salve Regina Seahawks (4-12-2) tonight at 7pm.
At 8:02 into the game, Salve Regina's Suzi Pearson was given a penalty for slashing, giving the Ephs the first power play opportunity of the game. The Ephs were able to capitalize on this opportunity when sophomore Meghan Halloran, assisted by senior Eliza Quigley, scored at 8:54.
Williams had to kill off a hooking penalty given to senior Abby Brustad at 18:07. Despite being a man down, the Ephs were able gain on the Seahawks when Halloran scored short handed assisted by first year Elizabeth Welch.
At 1:52 into the second period, Seahawks Erika Martin was called for checking, giving the Ephs another power play opportunity. The Ephs were able to score off this power play as well, when senior captain Annie Rush, assisted by Halloran, scored at 3:45.
Williams had to kill off another penalty at 11:41 when junior Amanda Reisman was called for a boarding penalty. Soon after killing off the penalty, Williams scored another goal when extra attacker first year Delaney Szlezyngier, assisted by Halloran scored at 13:54 during the delayed penalty. Salve Regina's Michaela Simon was also called for a tripping penalty at the same time, giving the Ephs another power play opportunity.
The Ephs were unable to find the net again during the third period but first year goalie Emma London was able to prevent the Seahawks from scoring, making sure the Ephs maintained their lead.
"I thought we did some good things offensively that we will look to carry through to this weekend and some things in transition to improve upon" said head coach Meghan Gillis, "Meghan Halloran stepped up with a hand in all four goals".
By the end of the game, Emma London had saved all 19 of Salve Regina shots while Seahawks goalie Jennifer O'Connell saved 50 of 54 Williams shots. "It was really exciting to see Emma London play so well to earn her first college shutout" said Gillis.
The Ephs play their next game this friday at Connecticut College at 7 pm.
