Williams Tops Bowdoin 4-1

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA -- The Williams College Ephs (9-4-2, 6-2-1 NESCAC) faced the Bowdoin Bears (5-7-3, 3-5-1). Although the Bears scored first in this game, the Ephs were able to equalize and pull ahead in the second and third periods to take the game 4-1.

Bowdoin scored the first goal of the game at 15:50 into the first period. The Ephs were unable to capitalize on their power play opportunity but were also able to successfully kill off an interference penalty with some great saves from sophomore goalie Chloe Heiting.

The Ephs first goal of the game was scored at 1:11 into the second period when junior captain Meghan Halloran was able to break away after receiving the puck from senior Amanda Reisman, fake left, and score right.

The Ephs were then able to pull ahead right at the beginning of the third at 53 seconds into the period when junior Avery Dunn was able to deflect in a great slapshot from fellow junior Brynn Puppe. The Ephs then further solidified their lead a minute later when Elizabeth Welch, after receiving the puck from first year Kelly McCarthy, was able to score with a solid backhand shot at 1:59. Then right before the end of the game, Halloran, assisted again by Reisman, was able to score on the empty Bowdoin net at 18:58 into the period.

By the end of the game, Bowdoin's Dani Marquez had saved 38 of 42 Williams shots while Heiting saved 18 of 19 Saint Anselm shots. "I thought Chloe did a great job of keeping us in the game at points when your defensive coverage was lapsing," said head coach Meghan Gillis, "I thought we came out ready in the third and played as a unit out there and that was the reason for our goals."

The Ephs face Bowdoin again tomorrow night at home.
