AMHERST, MA. -- Williams' (1-3/0-3 NESCAC) women's lacrosse team was defeated by Amherst College (4-1/ 2-1 NESCAC) on Saturday.The first goal of the game was unassisted scored by Amherst player Rebecca Wistreich within the first two minutes of the game. Although the Williams team was unable to recover, Goalies Kami Cisneros had a combined 13 saves throughout the contest.
After Amherst netted its third goal scored by Katherine Malone, Williams responded with a goal at 26:39 by Sophia Millay and assisted by Olivia Gomez. During the rest of the 1st period, Amherst players Isabelle Sennet,Claire Dunbar, Maia Noyes, Becky Kendal and Sydney Larsen scored a combined number of 7 goals, causing a nine point lead between the Mammoths and the Ephs. Sydney Larsen, Kelly Siebert, Claire Dunbar and Maia Noyes assisted the last four Amherst goals.
The Ephs fought back against their string of goals in the second half by shooting three goals into the back of the net within ten minutes. Shea van den Broek scored two goals, Claire Fitzpatrick scored five goals and Meghan Keenan scored one goal bringing the total number of Williams' goals up to nine.
Eph head coach Alice Lee notes that the team will "glean the necessary lessons from this game as we continue to move forward." She is proud of offensive play and her performance on free position opportunities as well as Millay's draw controls. Although Lee mentions that the team wasn't able to capitalize on their momentum, she knows that the resilient team will continue to have a successful season.
Claire Fitzpatrick successfully added four points for the Ephs within the last six minutes of the game, bringing the score to 9-13. Fitzpatrick scored all 5 attempted shots on goal, bringing her career shots on goal percentage up to 90%. The entire Williams' women's lacrosse team has an overall 79.6% completion rate for Shots on goal.
The Ephs will face off against Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine this Saturday, March 14 at 12:00 PM.
