Meg Conan ’09, who rowed all four years for the Ephs andwas a member of the first NCAA Division III team to win fourconsecutive NCAA Division III rowing crowns, returned to campus inthe fall of 2010 to join Brad Hemmerly’s staff. The Ephstreak of four NCAA titles in a row was extended to five in 2010 inCalifornia.
Conan was a walk-on rower at Williams who possessed no priorrowing experience. As a high school student in Skaneateles, NY,Conan competed in volleyball and tennis. Looking for a newchallenge in college she found what she was looking for with theWilliams crew. She ended her rowing career at 5 seat in the Varsity8 and was elected Outstanding Senior Oarswoman by herteammates.
"I am thrilled that we’ve been able to get Meg involvedwith the program again,” said Hemmerly. “She is goingto do a great job teaching, educating, and bringing our walk-onathletes along. I have complete confidence in her ability topatiently educate the future oarswomen of Williams Crew. Meg isalso going to be able to help them to understand the high standardsthat this team holds year in and year out, standards that she hashelped establish for the program as a rower."
Conan spent the past year training and racing in sprinttriathlons (swimming, biking and running).
Conan earned a B.S. in psychology as a pre-med major and earnedCollegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Scholar-Athletenational team honors three times, along with being named AcademicAll-NESCAC twice.
As a junior Conan spent the fall semester studying in Copenhagenand the experience led her to focus her career goals on medicalschool and educational policies in special education after studyingand observing health care systems throughout Scandinavia.
"Looking back on my experience at Williams, I learned so much onthe lake, in a boat: nowhere are dedication, passion andpersistence as tangible and nowhere can you find a group of peoplemore motivated to accomplish together,” noted Conan.“I’m so excited to have the opportunity to work withsuch a driven and dedicated team. I can’t wait to return to aprogram that became such an integral part of my experience and onewith such potential. The energy and enthusiasm of the members ofthis team have created countless opportunities to achieve and I amlooking forward to continuing to foster that environment, thatmomentum. This team consistently demonstrates what is possible whenpeople commit to one another, and I feel so lucky to become a partof that again!"
