WILLIAMSTOWN, MA — The Williams College women's soccer team will be making its 19th appearance in the Div. III NCAA Tournament — and 11th consecutive — this weekend when the Ephs play host to Lesley University, Brandeis University and Stevens Institute of Technology.
"We love playing on Cole, but at this point in the season, we are just happy to be playing,' Ephs' head coach Michelyne Pinard said. "Only 64 teams in the country are able to say that and we don't take that for granted, we're thrilled to be playing, we're thrilled to be on Cole Field and we're looking to do whatever we can do to earn another day together."
Williams (16-1-1) will face-off against New England Collegiate Conference champion Lesley (16-2-3) Saturday in a first-round match-up at 11 a.m.
The second first-round game to be played in Williamstown will pit Empire 8 Conference champion Stevens (11-3-4) and Brandeis (11-4-4), the runners-up in the University Athletic Associaiton. They will play at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
Lesley tied Elms, 0-0, in the NECC Tournament title game but earned the title and the automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament in penalty kicks, 5-3. Stevens also played to a scoreless tie in its conference championship, advancing past Hartwick 3-2 in penalty kicks. Brandeis plays in the University Athletic Association. The Judges tied NYU 1-1 Saturday in their regular-season finale and finished tied for fourth in the league standings.
Saturday's winners will meet at Sunday at 1 p.m. to see who advances to the third round the following weekend.
Tickets prices are $6 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and students and $2 for children ages 2 to 12. Children under the age of 2 will be admitted free.
