WILLIAMSTOWN, MA — Four members of the Williams College women's soccer team were honored when the United Soccer Coaches organization announced its New England Regional squads today.
Sophomore forward Sydney Jones (Boca Raton, Fla.) and junior back Sarah Kelly (Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J.) were selected First Team All-New England by the USC, while senior goalkeeper Olivia Barnhill (New York, N.Y.) was a Second Team selection and junior midfielder Sarah Scire (Wyckoff, N.J.) was chosen for the Third Team.
"I am thrilled to see so many of our players be named to the All Region team to represent our program," Ephs' head coach Michelyne Pinard said. "We have an incredible team that is focused on creating a team championship experience, first and foremost, so individual accolades are not our focus, however, these four student-athletes certainly are great representatives for us and they are all very deserving of such wonderful region-wide recognition by coaches at other New England schools."
Barnhill earns her first Second Team honor after being named to the Third Team in 2017. She has played all but 64 minutes in net for the Ephs, and owns a 0.45 goals against average with a .880 save percentage and 12 shutouts. Kelly and Jones pick up their first career USC All-Region accolades. Kelly has been an critical piece of a Williams defense that has limited opponents to 11 goals over 22 games. Jones is the Ephs' leading scorer with 22 points in 21 games. Of her team-high 10 goals, eight have been game-winners.
Scire is a skilled player who is equally important offensively and defensively from her midfield position. She is tied for second on the team with 10 points, including 4 goals and two assists. She has contributed two game-winning goals this season.
Williams, the defending national champions, will take their 17-1-4 record to Greensboro, N.C. tomorrow in preparation for the 2018 NCAA Div. III Tournament Final Four. The Ephs are slated to take on Christopher Newport (21-1) in a national semifinal Friday at 7:45 p.m. on the campus of UNC-Greensboro.
