Ephs Beat Conn College to Win the Weekend

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA -- A header goal from Victoria Laino '21 in the 52nd minute off of a cross from Sarah Scire '20 brought the Williams College Ephs (5-2-1 / 4-2 in the NESCAC) to their 1-0 win over the Connecticut College Camels (6-2 / 3-2 in the NESCAC).

After a back-and-forth first half, the score remained at 0-0 going into the second half. Allison Lu '20 had dangerous offensive takes for the Ephs, leading the Williams offense to put five shots up against Connecticut College goalie Katy Pelletier. Both teams played strong defense, resulting in many battles for possession in the midfield.

Quickly into the second half, the Ephs found redemption for their previous near-misses. A large cross from Sarah Scire '20 on the left side of the field found the head of Victoria Laino '21 bounced the ball past the Connecticut goalie. This goal made the score 1-0 Williams, with 37 minutes left to play.

After Laino's goal, both the Camels and the Ephs continued to attack each other's defensive lines. However, both teams held strong, neither allowing any more goals to be scored in the game. The Camels offense three shots in the second half, coming close to the goal, but either missed wide or saved by Williams goalie Whitney Lincoln '20. In the 78th minute of the game, the Ephs had another near-goal, resulting from Aspen Pierson '21 putting the ball off the crossbar from a free kick that was over 30 yards away from the goal, which was tapped towards the goal by Tess Belnap '23, resulting in another save by Pelletier.

The Ephs will take on another NESCAC opponent, the Colby College Mules, next Saturday, October 5th, in Waterville, Maine, at 11am.
