KANSAS CITY, MO. — Three members of the Williams College women's soccer team were honored when the United Soccer Coaches organization announced its Scholar All-Region squads today.
Senior back Nkem Iregbulem (Torrance, CA) and junior midfielder Victoria Laino (Charlotte, VT) were selected First Team All-East Region by the USC, while senior back Sarah Kelly (Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ) was a Second Team selection.
"I am thrilled to see our players be named to the All Region team to represent our program," Ephs' head coach Michelyne Pinard said. "We have an incredible team that is focused on creating a team championship experience, first and foremost, so individual accolades are not our focus, however, these three student-athletes certainly are great representatives for us and they are very deserving of such wonderful recognition by coaches from around the country."
Iregbulem was USC First All-American selection, a USC First Team All-New England selection and also a First Team All-NESCAC selection and a key player in the Ephs' back. Iregbulem started 20 games for the Ephs this season in the back and has been a regular there since her sophomore season. Her defensive prowess has helped the Ephs limit opponents to 22 goals this season. A mathematics/economics double major, Iregbulem has a 3.60 GPA.
Laino, the 2019 NESCAC Player of the Year, led the Ephs in goals this season with eight and in points with 18. Laino also garnered a spot on the USC Third Team All-American, USC First Team All-New England and All-NESCAC First Team to earn the first all-conference honor of her career. She was the third Eph in four years to be named NESCAC Player of the Year and the seventh overall since 1999, joining Jill Caterer (1999), Gabrielle Woodson (2007), Brianna Wolfson (2009), Sara Wild (2010), Kristie Kirshe (2016), and Danielle Sim (2017). A biology/psychology double major, Laino has a 3.54 GPA.
Kelly, also a key figure in that back, was a USC Third Team All-Region selection this season, and a First Team All-Region selection in 2018 and also a First Team All-American in 2018. An economics/psychology double major, Kelly has a 3.65 GPA.
