Williamstown, MA – In their most competitive match of the season, the women's squash team stormed the courts to take down George Washington 6-3. The GW team is ranked one behind the Purple Cows, which is why this win was monumental. The top 9 was back and healthy to take on the Colonials.

Up first was freshman Haley Jefferson (#3), Co-Captain Melissa Swann (#4), and junior Abby LeBlanc (#7). Jefferson won the first game 12-10 in a tough battle and carried that momentum to win the second game 11-6. Her colonial opponent got to her in the third game, but Jefferson–a fighter–came back and sealed the match in four games. Co-Captain Swann had two battles today: her opponent and her illness. Despite being sick, Swann valiantly displayed her best efforts playing smart squash and also winning the match in four games. On the bottom court, LeBlanc was almost flawless against her opponent winning the match in straight games.

Round two of the matches consisted of junior Julia Ward (#1) and freshmen Quan Ng (#5) and Mira Kamat (#9). Ward had a tough match against the Colonial number one. After losing the first game 11-2, she rallied back to win the second game 11-9, but she was unfortunately not able to carry that momentum and lost the match in four. Ng played some insane squash against her opponent winning the first two games 11-2, 11-1. She dropped the third game but found her rhythm again to win in four. Kamat had a rather straightforward match utilizing her various serves to win in straight games.

Up last was junior Sarah Willwerth (#2), Co-Captain Anna Nicholson (#6), and sophomore Kathryn Wright (#8). Willwerth fought hard during the first game winning it 11-7, but her GW opponent was too strong today as she came back from 0-1 down to win 1-3. Co-Captain Nicholson had a tough match against the Colonial's #6 and fell in straight games. Meanwhile, Wright played strong squash to finish her match in three.

Tomorrow, the Purple Cows will take on Franklin & Marshall at noon.
