Ephs Finish 2nd at NESCACs

Middletown, CT – This afternoon, the Ephs took on the Trinity Bantams in the NESCAC finals. Unfortunately, the Bantams were too strong for the Purple Cows as they took home the trophy today winning 8-1.

The first wave of matches was led by Julia Ward (#1), Quang Ng (#5), and Co-Captain Anna Nicholson. Ward put up a strong fight against the Bantam #1 with the first two games being relatively close but she ultimately fell in three straight games. Ng's deadly nicks were on display against her opponent as she was up 7-5 in both of the first two games before falling 9-11, 9-11, 6-11. Co-Captain Nicholson was playing amazing squash on bottom court, stealing the first game away from her opponent. She put up a strong fight against her Bantam opponent in the second and third game, losing 10-12 and 13-15, but eventually lost the match 1-3.

The next round of matches was not as close. Freshmen duo Haley Jefferson (#2) and Mira Kamat (#8) were not able to do much against their Trinity opponents today. Both Ephs tried to last on court as long as possible but were defeated 3-0 in the end. Junior Abby LeBlanc (#6) had a couple of killer winners in the first game, but she, too, lost to her Bantam opponent in straight games.

Last on court today was Sarah Willwerth (#3), Co-Captain Melissa Swann (#4), and Kathryn Wright (#9). Willwerth battled against her opponent in the first two games losing 7-11 in both, but she wasn't able to find her rhythm and lost in three. Similarly, Co-Captain Swann was not able to do much against her Bantam opponent also falling in three games. The match of day was when Wright emerged victorious against her Trinity opponent in a five-game thriller. After dropping the first game, Wright found her footing and won the next two games, before losing the fourth game to take the match to five. However, Wright was on top of her game today with her dying lengths and volley nicks as she won the fifth game 11-9 and the lone point for Williams today.

The Women's Squash team will be resting and training for two weeks before they head to Yale for Nationals!
