TROY, N.Y -- Three Ephs competed in the NCAA Div III Northeast Regional Championship this weekend at RPI. Leading the women was senior captain Mackenzie Murdoch, who along with junior Michelle Higgins '15 and rookie Ariana Ross '17 made up the Williams squad. All of the divers had standout meets, with Murdoch and Higgins qualifying for NCAAs in Indianapolis.
On Friday, Murdoch won the 3m event overall, leading the pack with a score of 518.05 which will qualify her for NCAAs in March. She led after eight different rounds, but needed her successful last dive to re-take the lead. Higgins took 5th place with 462.85 points, followed by Ross in 9th with 425.15.
In Saturday's 1 meter competition, Murdoch took first yet again, leading the Williams contingent with an impressive 490.60 points. Runner-up was teammate Higgins, who scored 480.90 to capture second. Murdoch and Higgins were the only ones at the meet to average over a score of 7 for each dive, scoring an average of 7.38 and 7.02, respectively. Ross placed sixth with 444.05 points, a great effort from the rookie diver.
Murdoch and Higgins will continue their seasons at the Div. III NCAA National Championships in March.
