SCHENECTADY, NY – The Williams women's swimming and diving team continued their momentum built from their meet yesterday, defeating Union College 209-85. Not only was this weekend the first meets for the Ephs, but it was their one and only double meet weekend for the year. There were strong performances across the board, giving the Ephwomen a good base to build their season from.

The Ephs left it all in the pool, resulting in a meet with some very close finishes within the heats. In the 200 freestyle, Anna Peterson '22 and Casey DeLano '21 battled it out to the finish, with Peterson outtouching DeLano for first place, the women going 1:58.56 and 1:58.64 respectively. Senior Franny Dean '19 made her 100 breaststroke debut, racing and getting her hands to the wall first, going 1:11.10, swimming 0.2 faster than her competition. Laura Westphal '21 and Maia Hare '19 sprinted their way to a 1-2 finish in the 50 freestyle, going 25.16 and 25.29. Finally, the Williams women put on a show in the 500 freestyle, with Erin Kennedy '19, Laura Westphal '21, and Abby Matheny '22 securing the top three spots. Kennedy topped the others, swimming a 5:15.29, with Westphal and Matheny close behind.

Other notable races came from Katie Orringer '21 and Bryanna Lee '19. In the 1000 freestyle, Orringer swam a strong and evenly split race, placing first and going 10:46.29. Similarly, Lee won the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:01.10.

Gabriella Mercier '21 dominated the diving competition, placing first on both boards. Diving coach Kit Koch is excited about Mercier's season, saying "she is poised to perform well this year!"

Although the Ephwomen have been struggling with sickness and injury, head coach Steve Kuster is focused on what is to come. "While our first two meets were a good start with some good performances, we'll need to get healthy and raise the bar in order to be competitive and have chances to win in the future." The Ephs are looking to recharge for their next meets.

Williams women's swimming and diving's next meet is Saturday, December 1, against Boston University and University of Connecticut, in Storrs, CT. The meet will start at 1 PM EST.
