SPRINGFIELD, MA – Two Eph women divers competed at the NCAA Diving Regionals this weekend at Springfield College. They jumped, flipped, and twisted their way to incredible finishes.
The Purple Cows started on the 1-meter board on Friday. While Emma Casey '23 only competed on this board due to an injury earlier in the month, she still competed with vigor and grace. She had an extremely impressive performance, rounding out her freshman year as an Eph.
Teammate Gabby Mercier '21 had an incredible performance, and after her solid finish last year, she came back with better dives and an even better finish. Despite her first couple dives putting her in the middle of the pack, her final dives catapulted her ahead of many other competitors, with her performance resulting in a third place finish. While a third place finish is an incredible feat on its own, this third place finish guaranteed her a ticket to compete at NCAAs in Greensboro, North Carolina in March. Casey finished as the first alternate for the region.
On Saturday, the Ephs finished with the 3-meter competition. While only Mercier competed on 3m, she still made the College's presence known. She nailed her entrances and twisters, and notched another top three finish for the weekend. Mercier's last dive, 5231D (Back, 1.5 flips, 1/2 twists free) catapulted her from fifth place to third place.
Mercier will join the twelve swimmers competing in Greensboro. The competition starts on March 18, 2020.
