Ephs take down Bowdoin 5-1, advance to NESCAC Championship

WILLIAMSTOWN-- The Williams women's tennis team advanced to Sunday's NESCAC championship match with a 5-1 win over Bowdoin College.

Williams held a 2-1 lead after doubles play. The Ephs top pair of Kara Shoemaker and Taylor French took down Bowdoin's Kellen Alberstone and Emma Lewis, 8-1. Kristin Alotta and Kathleen Elkins gave Williams a 2-0 advantage, with an 8-5 win over Emma Chow and Chantelle Lavertu. Emily Lombardi and Kate Winningham were able to avoid the sweep for Bowdoin, taking their pro-set 9-7 over Nancy Worley and Caroline Capute.

Williams got the three singles wins they needed to advance from Kristin Alotta, Kathleen Elkins, and Caroline Capute. Capute was first off with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Susanna Howard at the number six position. Kathleen Elkins wasn't far behind at number three, winning her match with Emily Lombardi by an identical score. Alotta won at the top position over Kellen Alberstone, 6-3, 6-4.

Williams advances to tomorrow's final against the winner of the second semi-final match between Amherst and Middlebury. Match time is set 9:00 AM.
