Williams sophomore Kathleen Elkins (Davidson, NC) and her homecoming to North Carolina to compete in the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Tournament are featured on the NCAA.com website.

Elkins plays at number two doubles with senior Kristin Alotta and at number four singles for the top-ranked Ephs who are now 22-2 on the year and face Emory University in today's NCAA semifinals in The Cary (NC) Tennis Park.

With senior partner Kristin Alotta, Elkins has fashioned a doubles mark of 15-1 this spring. Named All-NESCAC in Doubles this spring and last year was Second Team in Singles.

Yesterday she was leading in her singles match when classmate Kara Shoemaker clinched the win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps boosting the Ephs into the semifinal round in their quest to win a record five straight NCAA titles. Elkins leads the 2012 Ephs in singles wins this year with 26 against just four losses.

A pre-med Spanish major Elkins will be studying in Valencia, Spain this fall, which as many tennis fans know is near where [her] tennis idol Rafael Nadal lives. Elkins models her game after Nadal.
Oh, and she serves as the team's racquet stringer.

Last winter Elkins joined the Eph Sports Information Office, where she learned how to cover women's ice hockey under the tutelage of senior Margie Fulton.

Home Away From Home

Elkins is not the only Eph to have played previously at the Cary Tennis Park.

Four Williams players currently in the Eph lineup all played in the Girls18s Blue Cross Blue Shield Southern Open Championships. Kristin Alotta, Elkins, Kara Shoemaker and junior Nancy Worley were in the event.

Elkins beat Alotta in the back draw 7-5, 6-1 and posted the best record of the four at the event by going 7-1.
