MIDDLEBURY, VT – On a cloudy spring Saturday, the Williams College women's tennis team was defeated by the Middlebury College Panthers 7-2. This is Middlebury's fifth straight conference win, holding a 5-0 record while being ranked third nationally.

"Tough weekend - we need to clean up our unforced errors," said head coach Anik Cepeda. "Looking forward to sharpening our strengths."

In doubles, Williams picked up one point but were bogged down in two matches by Middlebury. Chloe Henderson and Maxine Ng narrowly won out over the Panther's Christina Puccinelli and Maddi Stow in a hard-fought match that went 8-7, then into a tiebreaker in which the Ephs prevailed at 7-2.

The two other Williams doubles pairs were not so lucky: Leah Bush and Julia Pham were defeated by Heather Boehm and Ann Martin Skelly of Middlebury in an 8-4 match. Emily Zheng and Korina Neveux player a close game, barely losing to Katherine Hughes and Skylar Schossberger 8-6.

In singles, Henderson was the first to finish her first set, defeated by Hughes 6-2. Neveux also had an unfortunate first set, losing to Puccinelli 6-1. Pham and Zheng, however, went toe-to-toe with Middlebury's Stow and Schossberger to win their first sets 6-1 each. Bush was not so lucky, and lost her first to Boehm 6-3.

Hughes picked up the Panther's first singles win of the day with her 6-0 second set over Henderson. The next singles set to finish was Emily Zheng's victory against Schossberger, finishing her second set like her first with a 6-1 score. Neveux, unfortunately, was done in on her second set by Puccinelli 6-1, giving Skidmore another win.

Next to fall was Bush, defeated by Boehm 6-2 in her second set. Pham, having won her first, lost her second 6-4 to Stow and went into a tiebreaker. She was unluckily outpaced by Stone, who defeated her 10-3 in her last set. Ng was the last singles matchup to finish, losing 6-4 to Middlebury's Stow and totaling the score with a Panther win 7-2.

The Ephs will play perennial rival Amherst at home on Saturday, April 20th at 1:00 PM. Full results from today's matchup can be found below.
