Williamstown, MA – The women's tennis team kicked off the fall season today with the Lindsay Morehouse Invitational. Middlebury, Skidmore and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute all competed at the Invitational, which is named in honor of one of the three Williams alumni who lost their lives on 9/11.

The day's matches were exclusively doubles affairs, with Middlebury taking on Skidmore and Williams dueling with RPI. Middlebury took three out of four matches with Skidmore. Williams swept their doubles matches with RPI. The pairing of Chloe Henderson '20 and Maya Jamroz '23 dispatched the pairing of Rani Jones and Alex Mednikova with a score of 8-3. Emily Zheng '20 and Zoe Bennett '23 downed Brenda Peng and Sanjana Surapeneni 8-5. Lastly, Katherine Orgielewicz '23 and Sarah Yang '20 beat Krisia Flores and Chloe Barr by the score of 8-2.

Eph head coach Anik Cepeda said the day's wins were a "fun start to the tournament. We turned nerves into aggression on all the courts today." She hoped the team would carry their momentum from today's win into tomorrow's matches, adding that she was "looking forward to seeing them take insights from day one into day two."

Cepeda led the team to a third-place finish in the NCAA tournament two years ago and is enmeshed in her third year of being the head coach of the team.

The Lindsay Morehouse Invitational will continue tomorrow and Sunday with all schools playing each other in a round-robin format. Singles matches will complement doubles matches tomorrow, even as a threat of rain is in the forecast. There will be no champion of the Invitational, so as to allow the most players to compete as possible. The Ephs' next tournament after the Invitational is the ITA regional event at Middlebury.
