Women's Track and Field Competes Well at the Springfield Triangle Classic

SPRINGFIELD, MA—Today, the Ephs sent a small cohort of women to compete at the Triangle Classic hosted by Springfield College. Many of the women competed well, some posting personal bests as well as final qualifiers for Division III New Englands.

Although not the first event of the day, the Ephs' meet began with the mile race. Abby Scott '22 was the only woman from Williams racing, and she represented well. The sophomore came through the finish line in a time of 5:15, a new personal best. She finished in second place. Next on the track for middle distance was the 800. Avery Mohan and Maria Tews, both class of '23, had solid races. Mohan ran evenly, finishing with a time of 2:27 to win seventh place. Tews finished in 2:30 for 14th place. 

Williams had two runners compete in the 400 meter race. Lilly Wells '22 typically competes in middle distance events, but today she stretched down to compete in some sprinting events. She finished with a solid time of 64.35 seconds to place in seventh. Katie Nath '23 also did very well in the event, finishing in just 65.12 seconds for tenth place. 

In the 200 meter dash, Kristen Chou '23 did very well. Her time of 26.91 won her second place. Wells also competed in the 200 dash for the first time, crossing the finish in 30 seconds. She placed 19th. Kiara Tan '22 raced in the 60 meter dash, and did very well. She won the meet by a tenth of a second, finishing finals with a time of 7.84 seconds to match her season best. 

While Williams had no jumpers today, the Ephs had multiple throwers compete. In the shot put, Lauren Crist had three very strong throws. Her best distance was an impressive 9.93 meters which put her in 12th place. Theresa Morley-McLaughlin '21 also threw shot put today and she performed well. Her best throw was 8.26 meters to win her 19th place. Crist also competed in the weight throw, and performed very well there. Her best throw of 11.85 meters put her in 13th place. Thandi Steele '22 did very well also, throwing a new personal best. Her throw of 12.10 meters won her 12th. McKenzie Stoker '22 was the final Eph to throw in the event, having a best distance of 10.47 meters. She came in 19th.

Next weekend, the majority of the team will return to competing for the Division III New England Championships. The Ephs look to defend their title, and win the regional championships for the third consecutive year. The meet, hosted by Middlebury College, will begin on Friday, February 28th at 2PM and continue Saturday, February 29th at 11AM.
