WILLIAMSTOWN, MA—Today the Williams College Ephs (15-1 Overall; 5-0 NESCAC) defeated Connecticut College (7-8 Overall; 2-3 NESCAC) 3-1.
The Ephs got out to a good start in the first set, and kept a steady lead until Conn called a time out at 15-8. The time out didn't throw the Ephs off though, as they continued to keep a consistent lead, with the help of kills from Emily Doll, and Tori Jasuta. At the end of the set Raea Rasmussen and Katherine Lane helped to finish off the set at 25-15.
In the second set, the Ephs quickly gained the lead with a kill from Doll and an ace from Emily O'Day. From there, Williams went on a run of points with kills from Jasuta, and a block by Katherine Lane. Williams was up by 7 points, but Conn battled their way back in and closed the gap to 3 points when Williams called a time out. After the time out, Williams got back on track and went on a run of points with a block from Doll and kills from Jasuta. Williams finished off the set at 25-16.
The Ephs got a slow start in the third set and did not recover the lead, losing the third set 25-22.
In the fourth set, Williams came back with a vengeance, and jumped out to an early lead and never let Conn back into the set. Williams quickly finished the fourth set 25-12.
Doll and Jasuta each had 13 kills for Williams. Jasuta lead the defense with 13 digs, and Ryan Farley had 39 assists.
Caroline Martin led Conn's offense with 11 kills, Cailyn Straubel led the defense with 13 digs, and Kaitlin Cunningham recorded 32 assists.
"Today was a good challenge for our team to try and put together two solid matches back to back," said Eph head coach Christi Kelsey, "I was proud that our team regrouped to come out and control the 4th set to close out the match."
With the win the Ephs extended their win streak to 12 and their NESCAC win streak to five.
The Ephs return to action on Wednesday when they travel to SUNY New Paltz for a 7:00 PM match.
