Ephs Go 0-2 on First Day of Union Invitational

Schenectady, NY –– The Ephs (0-3) continued their busy week with a double-header on the first day of the Union Invitational. Williams played host Union (1-4) at 4:00PM and Stevens (3-2) at 6:00PM. The Ephs continue their tournament schedule tomorrow against Skidmore at 9:00AM and SUNY Oneonta at 1:00PM.

Williams played a contentious match against Union (1-4) that was a five-set battle. The first set was win-by-two and ended with the Ephs taking the set 27 to 25. The Ephs were able to continue their energy and momentum into the second set. They won the second set 25 to 21. However, Union rallied in the third set and won the set 25 to 19. The forth set was the Ephs chance to take home the match. However, Union won the set 25 to 18. In the fifth set the Ephs came up short and Union won the final set 15 to 13. Ally Ostrow had a solid hitting percentage of .300 with 40 total attacks and 16 completed kills. Tess Richman also displayed aggressive offensive skills with a hitting percentage of .250 and 8 kills.

Hoping to come back from the loss, the Ephs played against the Stevens Ducks (3-2). However, Stevens came out strong and was able to sweep the Ephs and won in three sets. The set scores were 25-12, 25-21, and 25-17. The Ephs had successful kills even though Stevens ultimately got the win. Tess Richman had a hitting percentage of .417 and had 12 total attacks and 7 kills. Erin Denham had 35 total attacks and 10 successful kills.

Head Coach of the Ephs Christi Kelsey remarked on today's matches when she explained, "I am really proud of how our team worked hard to improve from our opening night match earlier this week." She added, "Union and Stevens are strong teams and good for us to sort of gauge and measure how we can continue to improve. Overall, we had lots of positive contributions from almost every player on our team and that depth for our crew will be a strength in the long run." 

The Ephs look forward to continuing the tournament with another double-header on Saturday. Williams plays Skidmore (2-3) at 9:00AM and will play Oneonta (4-3) at 1:00PM.
