Schenectady, NY – The Ephs (2-0) opened up their season with a doubleheader on the first day of the Union College Invitational. Williams faced Ramapo College (1-2) and Union College (2-4) in which they came away with two 3-0 wins.

Williams came ready to play and earned the sweep against Ramapo with set scores of 25-15, 25-16, and 25-19. Behind the strong serving of junior, Alex Newton, and sophomore, Allison Frison, the Ephs came out swinging and never looked back to take the first two games. Although the third set started out slow, the Ephs quickly found energy behind Allison Frison's powerful serving and secured the sweep. Erin Denham recorded eight kills in the match and Alex Newton registered nine assists. The Ephs had an attack percentage of .344 and nine service aces.

Against Union, Williams was looking to build on the victory from the first match, and the Ephs were able to do just that with set scores of 25-20, 25-18, and 25-14. In the first set, a decisive block by freshman, Olivia Hindy, and one by senior, Roxi Corbeil, pushed the score to 19-17 and that was the boost needed to claim the victory. The surge to 25 was highlighted by two kills by Erin Denham.

In the second set, the substitution of Morgan Richman provided the spark needed for the Ephs to open up a 15-3 lead and coasted to their second win, and the Ephs built on this momentum to win the last set. Once again in the third set the Ephs turned a 5-5 tie into 12-5 lead on three errors by Union, two kills by Denham and one by Tess richman. Union would not get closer than seven points as the ephs won 25-16.

Head Coach, Christi Kelsey, was excited about the first day of play and explained, "It was a great opening night for our team with both matches. I thought we did some different things well against each of the teams. There was lots of good execution on our skills across the board as well as just overall great focus and energy from our entire group. I want to make sure I give credit to all seventeen of our players tonight even though everyone did not set foot on the court today. We've had a great start to our preseason, and everyone has contributed in big ways each and every day in practice to help us improve and get better. I'm really proud of this group for the start of our season, and I'm excited to see what happens as we go forward."

On Saturday, September 8th, the Ephs will continue play at the Union College Invitational with matches against St. Michael's College at 1:00 P.M. and Skidmore College at 3:00 P.M.
