HADLEY, MA – Senior middle hitter Mia Weinland (Tokyo, Japan) has been accorded All-NESCAC Second Team honors in a vote by the conference coaches. This is Weinland's first all-conference honor.
Additionally Weinland was named to the 14-member American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Northeast Region on November 8.
"First off, I am so incredibly excited that Mia earned this honor. I think she is a tremendous representative of her entire senior class," stated Eph head coach Kristi Kelsey. "They collectively have had a 4-year journey filled with many great moments but a lot of adversity as well. The seniors battled through it all, stayed incredibly positive, and upbeat. Collectively they created a team and family dynamic that is absolutely awesome both on and off the court."
"Mia specifically has had a breakout year during her senior campaign," noted Kelsey. "Her work ethic was outstanding and her drive to get better every day propelled her to make huge strides in becoming a complete player both offensively and defensively. Most importantly, she has been an absolute role model showing that you can have fun every day and work incredibly hard at the same time! She brought an energy and infectious spirit to our team that definitely served as an inspiration to all.
Weinland who missed her sophomore season due to injury did fashioned her best season at Williams this fall. During this fall campaign she recorded season highs in sets played (73), kills (216), digs (60), block assists (24), and total blocks (27).
"I am really proud of Mia for this award and I know she would say that she represents her senior classmates and teammates in receiving this recognition to end the year," concluded Kelsey.
