Women's Cross Country and Alumni Compete at Plansky

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA -- Under perfectly clear blue skies and unseasonably warm temperatures, current and former Ephs, along with athletes from 4 other local colleges, took to the course at Mt. Greylock High School for a coed 5k race.  Among the crowd of purple and gold, the Ephs were joined by competitors from Lyndon State College, SUNY Cobleskill, Dean College, and Johnson State College.

The Ephs won the meet with a near perfect score of 19. The next place team, Cobleskill, had a score of 44.  However, the scoring did not include the alumni racers. Among all competitors, the alumni prevailed, taking 5 of the top 10 places.

First to finish of the women was alumnus and current Williams Psychology professor Lauren Philbrook '09 who ran a time of 19:00.  Alumnus Amelia Ortiz '15 took second, with a time of 19:50. Cross Country athletes were also joined by the Williams Nordic Ski team. Skier Sonya Jampel '19 took third with a time of 19:55, with some of her teammates not far behind.

Eight current Williams Cross Country athletes competed, led by Tyra Wynn '19, who took 4th, with an excellent time of 20:06.  Next to cross the line was Emily Tibbetts '20, who finished 10th with a time of 20:59.  Not far behind was classmate Hannah Lebowitz '20, who was the 12th woman to finish with a time of 21:21.

Adrienne Banks '20 finished next for the Ephs, with a time of 21:53.  Chelsey Jordan '21 came through after her with a time of 22:29.  The remaining Ephs demonstrated their characteristic pack running, with 3 runners working together throughout the race.  Wyndom Chace '21, Julia Gunther '20, and Jesse Facey '19 finished close together with times of 22:47, 22:49, and 22:55 respectively.

With record-breaking numbers of alumni and peak fall foliage, the sunny day was a great success. The Ephs will return to action next week as the top runners compete in the NESCAC Championship at Bates College.
