KEENE, NH--The skies were perfectly blue and the sun was shining when the Ephs took to the course for the Keene State Invitational.  19 teams lined up on the flat, mostly even 5 kilometer course at the Keene State athletic facility. Though the field was large, the Ephs came out with speedy times and a victory, despite resting many of their top athletes this week.

Showing their depth even without most of their top performers, the Ephs placed 4 in the top 10. Junior Brianna Bourne was the first Eph to finish, running a quick 18:18 for 3rd place. Just one second behind her was senior Maddy Boutet, running 18:19 for 4th.  Sophomore Abby Scott and first-year Maria Tews were the next pair of Ephs to come in, earning 7th and 9th place with times of 18:34 and 18:42 respectively.  Sophomore Sarah Jane O'Connor was the 5th Eph scorer, snagging 14th place with a time of 18:49.   These 5 athletes combined for a score of 37, ahead of second place Wellesley who scored 75 points.

Following O'Connor was senior Leah Rosenfeld, who took 22nd in a time of 19:17. Sophomore Emma Tappscott, who has returned for her second season much improved, ran a time of 19:26 for 28th place.

First-year Sammie Seamon also had a strong day, running 20:01. Hazel Richards, also a first-year, was close behind running 20:22. Junior Elizabeth Bigham turned in another strong performance, running 20:37. Sophomore Avivah Malin was next in 21:21, followed by senior Julia Gunther in 22:01 and sophomore Tori Saltz in 22:05.

All in all, the Ephs turned in quick times in excellent conditions. Assistant Coach Dusty Lopez agreed, saying "I felt like we did the most important thing well, which is just compete with the teams that are there. We got out really strong and battled hard to hold those positions and improve them. It's really nice to bring a partial squad and still come out with a good win against a quality field."

The Ephs will host their alumni race on October 12th and then return to intercollegiate competition on October 19th for the Connecticut College Invitational.
