Carolyn Miles enters her 14th year as a staff member of Williams College in 2025-26, joining the college during the 2012-13 academic year.

In July 2024, she was promoted to Deputy Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator. Miles was named the first Coordinator of Student-Athlete Well-Being and Physical Education at Williams on April 25, 2012, and then was named the Club Sports Coordinator in the 2014-15 academic year.

She was promoted to Associate Athletic Director for Student Athlete Services before assuming her current role as Deputy Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator. Miles also served as Acting Athletic Director from January-June 2024 during Athletic Director Lisa Melendy's sabbatical.

“The search committee was impressed with Carolyn’s broad range of experience in physical education, intercollegiate athletics and student life,” noted Melendy at the time of Miles' hiring. “Carolyn has been instrumental in adding offerings to the physical education programming at Sarah Lawrence College, where she also worked with a campus wide group to develop a new orientation program called the First Year Experience.

I’m excited to have Carolyn bring her expertise to our department in serving both our student-athletes and the broader student population. I’m also confident that she will serve as a valuable resource to our coaches as they help their athletes deal with the many issues, which they face.”

Miles' responsibilities include creation, implementation and supervision of an educational program designed to support student-athlete well being, including extensive collaboration with campus-wide departments. She organizes the physical education activity class offerings and physical education staff development, while teaching physical education classes and other administrative duties.

“I am thrilled to be joining the athletics and physical education department at Williams College,” said Miles at the time of her hiring. “Being given the opportunity to work on this new initiative at the college is a true honor. I look forward to working with the athletes, coaches and members of the Williams community to create programs that focus on student wellness.”

At Sarah Lawrence, Miles served as the Acting Athletic Director. She arrived at Sarah Lawrence in 2001 and worked as the Gryphons' Aquatics Director and Head Coach of the Men’s and Women’s Crew teams before taking over as Acting Athletic Director.

Prior to arriving at Sarah Lawrence, Miles served as a Novice Crew Coach at the University of New Hampshire from 1998-2001, leading the Wildcats to New England titles in 1999-2001.

Miles graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology/Physical Education-Pedagogy and a minor in nutrition. In 2008, Miles earned a Master of Science in Applied Physiology and Nutrition from Columbia University-Teachers College.
