Tommy Verdell enters his seventh year as Associate Athletic Director for Inclusion at Williams College in 2025-26. He was appointed to the position on June 14, 2019.

“I am pleased to announce Tommy Verdell has accepted the position of Associate Athletic Director for Inclusion and Compliance,” said Athletic Director Lisa Melendy at the time of Verdell's hire. “Tommy brings with him a skill set well matched to the position and the needs of the department. His work as both a Division III compliance officer and in student-athlete services prepares him well for the job at hand.

The search committee was impressed with Tommy’s obvious passion for working with student-athletes and his demonstrated ability to build relationships across campus. He is well positioned to build comprehensive educational programming focused on helping the department build an inclusive environment, where all students, coaches, administrators and staff members feel welcome and supported.”

Verdell’s primary duties at Williams center around working closely with Admissions and Financial Aid in recruiting and supporting under-represented students that are representative of the broader community. He develops recruitment strategies with coaches to broaden pools and increase outreach to traditionally under-represented populations. He creates and delivers educational programming for teams and department members to create an inclusive environment for faculty, staff and students.

In addition, he assists the department in recruitment of staff and faculty from under-represented groups. Verdell will coordinate all compliance requirements for Williams, NESCAC and NCAA, and he will develop and teach each six-week long activity class in physical education.

Verdell comes to Williams after serving as an Assistant Athletic Director and Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, over a five-year span. He was the Head Coach of Men’s Basketball and Assistant Athletic Director at Johnson State College for two years as well.

Verdell is a 2003 graduate of UMass Amherst, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Coaching. He completed his master's degree in coaching and athletic administration at Concordia University Irvine in November 2018.
