MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - The Williams College volleyball team put
together a solid effort Friday night, defeating Colby in three
games to improve to 15-5 overall, 3-0 in the NESCAC.
The Ephs will be back in Pepin Gym on the campus of Middlebury
College Saturday, first facing Bowdoin at 11 a.m. and then Bates at
1:30 p.m. to conclude the NESCAC weekend.
Friday night the Ephs took care of business against the Mules
(10-15) by winning the first game 30-18 and the second 30-16.
Every member of the team played and contributed to the victory,
according to Williams head coach Fran Vandermeer.
Sophomore Melissa Pun had 10 kills and 10 digs, while junior
captain Riki McDermott had three kills and 12 digs. Sophomore
Chelsea Kubal had six kills, 15 digs and threw in two service aces.
First-year Nicole Ballon-Landa added nine kills and three aces,
while classmate Eleanor Levine registered two kills.
Sophomore Whitney Hitchcock also had a nice match, recording
seven kills. Sophomore Alisha Cahlan had four kills, and classmate
Andrea Scioscia registered 10 digs. First-year setter Emily Avis
had 17 assists in the win, along with three aces. Senior captain
Liz Hirschhorn came on to record 14 assists in the victory.
