MIDDLEBURY, VT – The Williams college men's soccer team
dropped a heartbreaker 1-0 to conference foe Middlebury, Saturday.
The loss snaps Williams three-game win streak, and seriously
hinders their chances for a repeat as conference champ.
Both teams came to play today, and effectively canceled each other
out for the majority of the game. However, the Panthers snapped the
stalemate in the 84th minute as forward Baer Fisher converted
teammate Rob Storek's pass, to deny the Ephs overtime.
The Ephs held a mild edge in shots (19-17) and corners (6-5), but
were again plagued by a lack of finishing. Eph sophomore
Keeper Andrew Graham also played a solid game, netting five saves
before giving up the game-winner.
"It was a very even game for the most part, but I give them credit
- that late goal by Fischer was a great shot." Remarked Eph Coach
Mike Russo, "We need to regroup and to pull it together, and get
ready for Tufts next week."
Fortunately for the Ephs, they have a week to do just that. They
play next Saturday, October 20th, against Bates at 12:00 PM.
