MIDDLEBURY, VT-
Williams women's soccer's unbelievable season keeps on rolling. The
Ephs traveled to conference opponent Middlebury and dealt the
Panthers a 4-0 shutout for their twelfth straight victory of the
season and seventh conference win. Williams holds
the number one spot in the NESCAC standings with the only
undefeated conference record.
Conference games are never easy as every team
in the NESCAC knows how to compete at the top
level. Middlebury and Williams played to a first
half draw before the Ephs came out in the second half and were
finally able to find the net and rattle off four goals in a 14:23
span.
Both teams had opportunities to score on goal
but the Panthers could not capitalize. Their best opportunity
arose midway in the first half but Lindsay Walker's header
sailed wide past the goal post. Williams had six
corner kicks in the first half, but failed to convert as
well.
Williams broke the stalemate at the 54:19 mark
when Brianna Wolfson scored off a feed from Jessie
Freeman. Wolfson finished the game with an
assist and a goal. Sarah Walmsley, Gabrielle
Woodson, and Clare Gallagher also tallied goals for the
Ephs. Woodson scored her team-leading 10th goal of
the season.
“The overall game was very even, but we
just finished our chances in the second half and they did
not,” said Williams head coach Michelyne
Pinard. “The time on the ball was even,
and Middlebury played very well. It was a battle
for the whole ninety minutes.”
