Box Score
CLINTON, NY- The
William's College women's volleyball team (4-0, 1-0)
opened up NESCAC play with a 3-0 victory over Hamilton College
(0-5, 0-1), 30-18, 30-25, 30-24. Coming off an
impressive opening weekend, which featured victories over #25 Coast
Guard and Wesleyan, the Ephs showed no signs of a letdown in the
conference opener.
“Regardless of the scores, Hamilton is much improved this
year and it's a great sign for this conference,” said
head coach Fran Vandermeer. “Our passing
and first contact was good, and we took steps forward with an
increasing tempo of offense.”
The entire Eph squad saw playing time against the Continentals and
there were key contributions from many players on the
night. Junior captain Riki McDermott led the
Ephs with an impressive and balanced match, tallying 3 service
aces, 2 blocks, 9 digs, and 7 kills. Sophomore
Melissa Pun also continued her successful second season by
recording 19 kills and committing no errors, while first year
setter Emily Avis paced the offense with 28 assists.
On the defensive side, the Ephs were able to neutralize the
Hamilton attack with strong efforts from sophomores Chelsea Kubal
and Andrea Scioscia. Kubal notched her fourth
straight match with double digit digs, tallying 21, while defensive
specialist Scioscia posted 14 digs of her own.
The Ephs continue NESCAC play Friday September 14th
with a road match against Tufts at 8 PM.
