Hartford, Ct - The Trinity Bantams handed the Williams College
men's soccer team their second consecutive loss in a decisive 2-0
victory in Hartford, Saturday. The loss marks the second straight
game where the Ephs have failed to score a goal.
The first half was primarily a balanced affair, with each team
pushing back and forth with real goal chances, before ultimately
being stuffed by the others defense. However, the Bantams tipped
the scales right before half, when senior forward Jonathan Hayes
converted junior midfielder Brice Vallieres feed at the 43rd minute
mark.
The second-half saw more of the same, with each team producing
generally equal performances that were only separated by a moment
of Bantam brilliance; this time when freshman midfielder Peter
Marlette was able to sneak the ball past Ephs sophomore keeper
Andrew Graham (3 saves) in the 65th minute.
The Ephs again found themselves catalyzed by a second-half deficit
and played pressure soccer for most of the half, creating several
good scoring opportunities, but were never able to tally a
goal.
The chances were there for the Ephs, who offensively out-shot the
Bantams (16-11) and had far more corners (12-3), but lacked the
finishing touch. "You have to give credit to Trinity, they played
well today." remarked Eph coach Mike Russo, "But, we did not play
well. Ultimately, we need to score and we just didn't do that
today."
The defeat marks the Ephs first conference loss of the season, and
drops them out of first place in the NESCAC standings.
Williams next travels to Wellesley to play Babson, tomorrow at
1:30 PM.
