Ephs fall to Salem State, 76-65, in tournament title tilt

SALEM, MA -- One night after a sizzling performance beyond the three-point line lifted them to victory, the Williams College men's basketball team was done in by an opponents' ability to knock down treys as the Ephs fell to Salem State, 76-65, in the championship game of the Vikings' Christmas Tournament.

Williams will face CCNY Friday at 8 p.m. in the second game of their own Purple & Gold Invitational. Kean (N.J.) and RPI will tip-off at 6 p.m. Friday.

The Vikings received a game-high 22 points from senior guard Stevie Celestin, whio was selected MVP of the tournament. SSC (9-2), who shot a blistering 8-for-13 (61.5 percent) from three-point land over the first 20 minutes of action, received 12 first half points from Celestin and 11 points from junior guard Brennan Bennett, who earned All-Tournament team recognition, en route to a 39-33 laed at the half.

Williams (7-3) was led by senior guard Kevin Snyder's 16 points and junior guard Blake Schultz's 17 points.  Both were selected to the All-Tournament team.

The Vikings finished the game 27-for-56 (48.2 percent) from the field, including 9-for-15 (60.0%) from international waters.  SSC also converted 13-for-19 (68.4 percent) from the free throw line. 

SSC senior center Dylan Holmes added 11 points, eight rebounds and a game-high five blocked shots for the winners, who also received eight rebounds and game-highs of four assists and three steals rom Celestin.  Celestin finished 8-for-13 from the field and 4-for-4 from the line.
