CAMBRIDGE, MA – The Williams college volleyball team ended
this weekend's MIT Invitational tournament by defeating
Wellesley 3-2 (25-17, 25-15, 21-25, 19-25, 15-7), Bates 3-0 (25-18,
25-9, 25-13), and clenching the top spot in the sliver competition
bracket.
“The team took positive steps forward this weekend,”
said head coach Fran Vandermeer. “We took better care of the
ball, and our offensive tempo is improving every day.”
In the day's first match, the Ephs toppled Wellesley with
the hard work of sophomores Emily Avis (36 assists), Nicole
Ballon-Landa (11 kills, 3 blocks), Eleanor Levine (11 kills, 4
blocks), and Kate Anderson (9 kills, 3 blocks), as well as juniors
Chelsea Kubal (16 digs, 10 kills, 3 aces) and Andrea Scioscia (11
digs).
Against Bates, Avis (28 assists), Anderson (15 kills, 4 blocks),
and Levine (6 kills, 3 blocks) helped the Ephs finish the
tournament with the defeat of the Bobcats. In doing so, the ladies
grasped 5th place in the overall tournament and won the silver
bracket.
Anderson was named to the All-Tournament team.
Next weekend, the Ephs kick-off the Williams College
Invitational at home against SUNY Oneonta at 4pm.
