WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – The Williams College women's
swimming and diving team (5-0) came out strong and defeated rival
Amherst College 194-104.
“This was a very good meet for us. Consistent, deep
performances all the way through were the key to our
success,” said head coach Steve Kuster.
The Eph women posted solid numbers across the boards, leading
the Lord Jeffs in ten out of the sixteen events. In the individual
competitions, sophomore Erin Altenburger placed first in the
100-yard backstroke (58.75) and 500-yard freestyle (5:05.30),
freshman Logan Todhunter won the 200- and 100-yard butterfly
(2:01.94, 55.83), and junior Lisa Cucolo finished on top in the one
and two-hundred yard breaststroke (1:07.57, 2:27.07).
Other notable efforts include excellent performances by senior
Amanda Nicholson (winner of both the 200-yard individual medley
(2:09.00) and 200-yard backstroke (2:06.79), and sophomore diver
Taylor Stevens. Stevens came in second to Amherst diver Sabrina
Dorman in both the one and three meter diving events, but her
performance was praised by coach Kuster.
In both of today's relay events, the Eph women finished
first. The meet opened with a 200-yard medley relay in which the
Ephs took first and second place. The first place group including
Altenburger, Cucolo, Todhunter, and freshman Carolyn Geller
(1:47.61) was closely followed by Nicholson, sophomores Rebecca
Tyson and Olivia Card-Childers, and senior Courtney Asher
(1:49.99). The meet concluded with another win by the Cucolo,
Todhunter, Altenburger, and Geller group (3:32.50).
The Eph women face Wesleyan next Saturday, January 17 at 1PM.
