MIDDLEBURY, VT- The Williams College women's swimming and
diving team (9-0) put the finishing touches on an undefeated
regular season with a 185-115 victory over NESCAC rival Middlebury
Saturday afternoon. The Ephs used ten event victories to
notch their thirteenth consecutive dual meet victory, dating back
to last season.
"We came out today and did what we had to do
against Middlebury," said head coach Steve Kuster. "Our next
goal as a team is to get healthy in the next couple weeks and start
to assemble our best group for the NESCAC championships."
The top performer for the Ephs was senior Amanda Nicholson, who
posted three event victories with the top time in the 100 yard
backstroke (1:00.18), the 200 yard backstroke (2:07.55), and the
400 yard IM (4:29.43).
Sophomore Jillian Hancock also had multiple event victories on
the day as she bested the field in both the 200 yard freestyle
(1:57.19) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:10.64).
Rounding out the top finishes for the Ephs were senior Ann Marie
Zollo in the 200 yard butterfly (2:14.02), junior Lisa Cucolo in
the 100 yard butterfly (59.69), junior Christina Metcalf in the 200
yard breaststroke (2:27.27), and sophomore Erin Altenburger in the
1650 yard freestyle (17:48.88).
The Ephs conclude regular season action next weekend at the MIT
Invitational and then travel to Bowdoin for the NESCAC
championships on February 20th.
