WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – The
Williams College volleyball team (16-8) defeated the Middlebury
College Panthers 3-1 (25-22, 25-18, 22-25, 25-16) in their last
home game of the season. The Ephs hosted the Panthers for senior
night, honoring '10 grads Chelsea Kubal, Whitney Hitchcock,
Melissa Pun, and Andrea Scioscia.
Both teams came out strong in game one, but it
was the Ephs that were able to pull through with the 25-22 win and
carry their momentum into game two. After handling the Panthers
25-18, the Ephs dropped the third set 22-25 in a game that both
teams fought for from point to point. Williams ended the game 25-16
with a quick kill from Hitchcock.
“This was a great senior night
win!” said head coach Christi Kelsey. “Middlebury is a
very good team. We executed well tonight…solid play from
start to finish.”
Juniors Emily Avis (47 assists), Kate Anderson
and Nicole Ballon-Landa led the Ephs on offense tonight, posting 25
and 18 kills, respectively. Holding up the defensive end were Kubal
and Scioscia, digging 18 and 21.
This Halloween weekend the Ephs travel to
Hamilton College for two matches against Bates and Colby. Game one,
on Friday, begins at 8pm.
