MEDFORD, MA – The Williams College
volleyball team (19-8) defeated seventh-seeded Bowdoin College to
win the quarterfinal round of the 2009 NESCAC Volleyball
Championship. The Ephs took down the Polar Bears 3-1 (23-25, 25-18,
25-18, 25-12) and will now advance to the semifinals.
The Ephs did not let a first set loss to the Polar Bears
discourage their efforts. Throughout the rest of the match, the
team played consistently well. Ephs Kate Anderson (16) and Whitney
Hitchcock (12 ) lead the Ephs in kills, while junior Emily Avis
posted 46 assists. Seniors Andrea Scioscia (24 digs) and Chelsea
Kubal (17 digs) were the strength of the defense tonight, and
sophomore Aly McKinnon kept the pressure high against Bowdoin by
contributing 5 aces.
After the match, head coach Christi Kelsey said that she was
“very proud of our team for finding a way to win tonight
against a very solid Bowdoin squad. We kept battling point after
point to pull it out.”
The win against Bowdion advanced the Ephs to the semifinal round
against Connecticut College. The two teams go head-to-head tomorrow
