MEDFORD,
MA – For the 4th year in a row, the
Williams College volleyball team (20-8) has earned a spot in the
NESCAC volleyball championship. The Ephs took down the Connecticut
College Camels 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 27-25) and guaranteed themselves
a matchup against the Tufts Jumbos in the finals on Sunday.
The Ephs won two of three most recent trips to the final,
downing Amherst in 2008 and 2007 and falling to Amherst in 2006.
The Ephs are 8-4 in NESCAC Finals appearances and their eight
overall titles through last season is tops in the conference with
Bates next with four.
Strength on service and attacks were critical to the Ephs success
in this match. Scioscia cranked two service aces early on in game
one and established the team's momentum for the rest of the match.
Leading the stats for the Ephs were seniors Andrea Scioscia (23
digs, 3 assists) & Whitney Hitchcock (10 kills), and juniors
Kate Anderson (14 kills), Nicole Ballon-Landa (10 kills), and Emily
Avis (33 assists).
Tomorrow Williams faces top-seeded Tufts in the championship at
12PM. Last year, the Ephs eliminated the Jumbos in the semifinal
round. However, in three regular season match-ups, the Ephs have
only managed to take one set from Tufts.
