CLINTON, NY – In their first official
NESCAC match of the season, the Williams College volleyball team
(5-3) defeated Hamilton College in three straight sets (25-5,
25-20, 25-6).
“This was a strong way for us to kick
off the NESCAC season,” said head coach Christi Kelsey.
“Hamilton has continued to improve as a team so it was great
for us to come out and control the match in serving and
passing.”
The Ephs' defense showed its strength
tonight through senior Chelsea Kubal (8 digs), senior Andrea
Scioscia (9 digs), and junior Nicole Ballon-Landa (3 blocks), who
put intense pressure on Hamilton's offense. The Ephs were
also very strong in the front row, with junior Emily Avis dishing
out 22 assists, Kubal posting 10 kills and 3 aces, and
tonight's stat leader junior Eleanor Levine recording 11
kills and 3 aces.
Coach Kelsey, very proud after the
team's efforts today, said that “we looked sharp as a
team,” and that we “have to keep stepping up our level
each practice and match as we continue with the season
ahead.”
On September 25th the Ephs travel
to Cambridge to compete in the MIT Invite, game time TBA.
