Ephs remain unbeaten, top Colby 6-0

Box Score

WATERVILLE, Maine - The Williams College men's soccer team used an overwhelming balanced attack led by Connor Smith's two scores and Gaston Kelly's three assists to blow past conference rival Colby, 6-0 Saturday.

The Ephs remain unbeaten at 4-0-1 (2-0-1 NESCAC) and notched their third shutout in five games. The Mules, coming off of their first win of the season, simply didn't have enough as they fall to 1-3-1 (0-3 NESCAC).

"It was a very satisfying performance and a total team win." remarked Eph head coach Mike Russo, "We asked some guys to step up into a role they weren't accustomed to and play didn't drop off."

The Ephs implemented a highly efficient attack in the win; netting three scores off of four corner kicks and six goals off of nineteen shots, while the Mules could only muster ten shots and a pair of corner kicks.

Conor Smith kicked off the scoring bonanza in the thirteenth minute off of the first of two hookups with Gaston Kelly, this time when Kelly's corner kick from the left side was redirected by the head of Smith past Colby keeper Doug Sibor (3 saves) to give the Ephs the early 1-0 lead.

Peter Houston would add a score late in the half to give the Ephs a 2-0 edge at the intermission.

Williams would score three more goals in a four minute span just ten minutes into the second half. The scoring burst was punctuated by the second of Smith and Kelly's connections in a mirror image of the first, as Smith once again knocked home a Kelly corner kick to bring the lead to 5-0 in the 57th minute.

Nick Pugliese and Pierre Meloty-Kapella each contributed a goal in the run.

David Reison, in his first action of the season, finished the scoring with the conversion of a Colin Ainsworth corner kick in the 72nd minute to settle the score at 6-0.

The Ephs will continue their away game tour when they travel to Babson tomorrow, September 27th, for a non-conference matchup. That game is scheduled for a 1:00 PM kick off.
