SPRINGFIELD – The Williams College
women's swimming and diving team (7-1) won their seventh
consecutive meet, defeating the Springfield Pride 186 to 105. The team performed well in
the second meet of the week, again mixing up the line up to test
their potential in the second to last dual meet before invitations
and championships.
The Ephs totaled
twelve event victories out of the total sixteen, dominating with
sweeps in the 200-yard medley relay, 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard
breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly, 50-yard freestyle, and 500-yard
freestyle. The
winning team from the 200-yard medley relay of KC Ha, Lisa Cucolo,
Katherine O'Leary, and Sophia Sequeira (1:53.40) all later
found victories in the 100-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke,
200-yard butterfly, and 200-yard freestyle, respectively.
Caroline Wilson
demonstrated her versatility and golden touch, winning every event
she entered from the 50-yard to 100-yard backstroke to the 500-yard
freestyle. Ellen
Ramsey also picked up multiple wins in the 1000-yard freestyle and
200-yard backstroke.
In diving, Hannah Wilson edged out a win in the 1-meter dive with
240.97 points over Springfield's Courtney Keefe (239.40)
despite hitting her hand on the board.
“The
team's performance was on track with my expectations in a
meet that has been historically difficult for us,” said head
coach Steve Kuster.
“Though this pool and timing of the meet provided some
challenges of getting up and having great performances, the women
rallied.” Lisa
Chu won her first collegiate race in the 200-yard breaststroke
(2:34.35), and Lisa Cucolo barely missed qualifying for the NCAA
B-cut in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.54), clocking in with a
solid swim at 1:07.91.
Next week on
January 30, 2010 at 1pm, the Ephwomen sendoff their seniors in
their last dual meet against perennial NESCAC rival Middlebury.
